Business Performance Planning

Currently, having reporting and analytical tools It is essential for decision makers in companies. For this reason, we observe that one of Microsoft's main investments in the field of business applications focuses on that area. Business Performance Planning (BPP) It is a new tool that we will have available only with the Dynamics 365 Finance Premium license, and that is very useful for carrying out and optimizing forecasting, planning and financial analysis tasks.

It is not just an exclusively financial tool; It is also useful for analyzing other aspects of the business, such as identifying which customers buy the most, which suppliers receive the most orders, and knowing collection and payment times.

In the Human Resources section, for example, you can see which positions have the highest turnover and what the personnel cost is by department, among other relevant data.

Furthermore, it allows budget simulations and evaluate “what if” scenarios, such as what would happen if certain customers did not pay on time, how that would affect cash flow, and whether payment obligations could be met. You can also project optimistic and pessimistic scenarios for more strategic planning.

Using familiar tools such as PowerBi Y Microsoft Excel, we will be able plan and create what-if scenarios connecting data almost in real time. In this way, we will eliminate manual processes and achieve greater efficiency in our business.

By further exploring this modeling application developed by Microsoft, we discovered that Data is organized into dimensions and cubes. For its correct functioning, the loading of real data will also be added.

Dimensions

They can be created from Excel, manually or from the environment itself with linked dimensions.

The Dimensions are the descriptors that will define the real data. We will use them to divide our data as we see fit, for example, by product, by business unit or time. It is important to highlight that These dimensions do not have to be the same that appear in our ERP.

The dimensions can consist of one or more columnsFor example, a time dimension can contain name, year, and month. Any columns we add will be used in the transaction analysis to create a structure that will allow us to break down the information by year and month.

Cubes.

Are the set of dimensional data and real data that will be used for modeling and analytical purposes. When we create a cube, it shows us the available dimensions that we can select and associate with each cube.

Real data loading.

The Actual cube data consists of numerical values that can be aggregated and analyzed. This data can be loaded using an Excel file or a data flow, which will then be linked to the existing cube. Some examples of data that can be uploaded include invoices, production costs, and salaries. This would be an example:

Once the dimensions, cubes and real data have been loaded, we would go directly to Power BI. Business Performance Planning already offers us a set of seven visual elements to create our dynamic report:

Once we have created our report, we will have to connect Power BI with Dataverse so that the report automatically collects the information uploaded to BPP.
