Automate the startup and shutdown of virtual machines through Power Automate and Copilot Studio

Currently, automating daily processes is one of the most in-demand things. Among its main benefits we find an increase in efficiency in our workplace and savings in time and resources.

One of the processes that we can automate very easily is turning a virtual machine on and off. We will do it through Power Automate and our custom Copilot Studio copilot.

Copilot Studio

The first thing we will do is create a new theme in our Copilot Studio.

We will set the phrases option as a trigger and add the key words or phrases with which we want the machine to start.

Then we will add an action, which in this case will be a Power Automate instant flow.

Power Automate

The flow will open directly for us and we can add the “Start virtual machine” step. Here we will simply enter the data of our machine.

As a last step in the flow, we'll add responding to Copilot. We'll post the flow and go back to our copilot.
Finally, we will add a step with the message: The machine is on and another step ending the current topic.

To turn off the machine, we would have to create another theme in Copilot Studio and follow the same steps. In the flow, we would indicate “disconnect virtual machine”.

Now we will test its operation in Copilot.

It is important to highlight that Copilot Studio offers a large number of channels where we can integrate our copilot, for example, Microsoft Teams, mobile or web applications.
